Illinois Manure Management Plan (IMMP)

In Illinois, there are three different manure management plans that a livestock facility might need to have. Manure Share is a manure exchange program that brings gardeners and landscapers searching for organic materials for use in composting or field applications in contact with livestock owners who have excess manure.

Small Farms Manure Management

Small Farms Manure Management is aimed at livestock producers (horse owners, stable owners and managers, beef operations, dairy, goat and sheep,poultry and swine farms) with small facilities less than 300 animal units.

Safely Pumping Manure from Pits with Foam Safely Pumping Manure from Pits with Foam

URBANA - News reports have surfaced last fall detailing flash fires and explosions in livestock buildings while liquid pit manure was being agitated and pumped. For this reason, University of Illinois Extension staff is urging caution when agitating and pumping manure from pits beneath buildings. So far, this phenomenon has occurred mainly in pits under swine buildings that have foam above the manure in the pit.
