Windy weekend

Posted by Russel Higgins -

Today I visited with producers at a workshop hosted by the Will-South Cook Soil and Water Conservation District. The primary topic of the day was cover crops and the workshop included a farmer panel that was very enlightening. I had the opportunity to share information on the history of and research projects currently underway at the NIARC. It is always enjoyable to visit with folks I had not seen for some time. I was pleased to hear at least some of the producers are in an area that has actually been receiving rain this growing season! Word had quickly spread across coffee shops and beyond of the damage caused by the recent weekends high winds. I altered my return trip from Will County to see for myself. Our only casualty at the research center was a power pole currently at a 45 degree angle; we fared considerably better than this grain facility south of Yorkville.
