Great day for geese

Posted by Russel Higgins -

This weekend brought the projected warm up and precipitation, close to 3/4 of an inch in most of northern Illinois. Some frost is still in the ground, evidenced by ponding and the appreciative geese. Are we losing nitrogen? It is likely, the fields are simply too muddy in Morris to allow a trek to observe if the tile lines are running, but I suspect they are. Certainly a catch-22, for many in northern Illinois, we would rather the nitrogen stay in our fields, but appreciate the fact that our soils continue to recharge with moisture following 2012.
Last week took me to campus for several days to work on web and web delivery projects, then a morning with the Illinois Corn Marketing Board in Bloomington. Friday I had the opportunity to present and reconnect with folks in Will County at Joliet. I have pushed my clock ahead and am ready to charge into another week!
