Research plot harvest starts at the NIARC

Posted by Russel Higgins - Soybeans

Farm Foreman Dave Lindgren has cleaned off end rows and fill areas allowing us to start harvesting with the plot combines. Today research agronomist Greg Steckel harvested the early planted soybean variety/maturity/flowering intensity trial and also the soybean in the crop rotation study.

A late season disease arrival in Illinois was discovered by Dr. Carl Bradley. While returning from southern Illinois last week Dr. Bradley took an indirect route and collected leaf samples. One of the soybean leaves collected in Massac County tested positive for Soybean rust. The good news is there is no threat of yield loss to our mature Illinois soybean fields. We will be collecting samples whenever we see green soybeans in northern Illinois (most likely double crop after wheat) to determine if Soybean rust extends to northern Illinois.

The current status of Soybean rust can be accessed on the IPMPIPE web site
