Plenty of activity at NIARC
Like most northern Illinois farmers, we are taking advantage of favorable October weather. Today at the Northern Illinois Agronomy Research Center Dr. Fred Kolb's researchers planted wheat to evaluate winter hardiness. Also, variety testing harvested their soybean trials. When tabulated, they will be available on the Illinois Variety Testing web site

Our soybean cover crop and soybean date of planting study were harvested today. Preliminary yields from our early planted soybean maturity study ranged from 61 to 81.1 bushels per acre.
Today we learned of the passing of a long time NIARC advisory committee member. Kerry Greenwald worked in the Northern Illinois seed industry for 40 years. His presence and insights will be missed.
