Tillage decisions

Posted by Russel Higgins -

The late harvest hindered the extent of fall tillage many producers had intended to complete. Will there be yield consequences to the 2014 crop? Other factors influence tillage decisions including soil type, crop rotation, residue and drainage. However, a 2013 tillage study at the NIARC showed little difference in corn yield following soybean when comparing tillage systems. No significant difference in yield was found between no-till, fall strip-till, spring finisher, fall chisel, fall disk-rip and fall molboard plow. We plan on continuing this research on site.
