Busy week!

Posted by Russel Higgins - Corn

The previous week was a busy one for many agribusiness folks and farmers, educational program opportunities are starting to wrap up as spring and the crop production season nears. Last Wednesday and Thursday attendees to the Northern Illinois Crop Management Conference heard twelve speakers on varied commercial agriculture topics. In his presentation, Dr. Mike Gray, University of Illinois Extension entomologist, shared the densities of Western corn rootworm adults in early and later season surveys across the state. His numbers reflect adult Western corn rootworm beetles per 100 sweeps of an insect sweep net. The tabulated numbers showed a dramatic increase in several northern Illinois counties, including LaSalle and Livingston.

Dr Gray will be further addressing 2014 rootworm management strategies along with Dr. Joe Spencer at the Northern Illinois Agronomy Research Center this Wednesday morning (February 19th). There is no cost for the 1/2 day program and all are invited. The program starts at 9:30 am and will conclude before noon.
