FAST tools (Farm analysis solution tools) to help with 2013 crop rotation and insurance decisions

University of Illinois' Agricultural Economists that contribute to the farmdoc and farmdocDAILY websites have put together several useful tools to help in making financial decisions for your operation. These tools are called FAST tools, which stands for Farm Analysis Solution Tools and were developed with financial support from the USDA's Risk Management Agency.

One of these, the 2013 Crop Insurance Decision Tool, was recently featured in a FarmdocDAILY article by Dr. Gary Schnitkey. This Excel spreadsheet-based tool can help you to calculate the how much it would cost to insure corn, soybean or wheat based upon both the desired coverage level and insurance product.

Another tool is the "Corn-soybean rotation tool", which can help you to compare the profitability of corn-soybean, corn-corn-soybean, and continuous corn rotations using data specific to your operation. There is a short online demonstration that can help walk you through how to use the tool.

Other FAST tools have been developed to help with financial, investment and loan analysis, farm, livestock and risk management and grain marketing. To access these tools visit the University of Illinois farmdoc FAST tools website.
