September 2013 Weather Summary

Posted by Angie Peltier - Weather

Like June, July, and August, the Northwestern Illinois Agricultural Research and Demonstration Center saw below average rainfall in September (Table). The prolonged dry weather combined with above average high and low temperatures (4 and 2 degrees above average, respectively) likely sped crop maturity.

A map produced by the Midwest Regional Climate Center illustrates the dry weather between June 1st through September 30th (Figure). Total precipitation in Western Illinois during this four month period ranged between 6 and 10 inches.
