Leadership Development
CED Educators across the state recognize the importance of identifying new leaders for their communities and providing them with the training and support they need to run our local communities, civic organizations, and businesses. Helping the next generation of Illinois leaders is a primary focus and U of I Extension offers Leadership Academies for newly elected or appointed officials, community-based workshops that train local community leaders to enrich and guide their local communities, and Candidate Academies for those looking to serve the public and need to know what expectations they will need to meet in office. Additionally, through our Local Government Education Information Network, Extension offers free and convenient webinars are topics that matter to local officials including FOIA requirements, the Open Meetings Act, and current legislative topics impacting their communities.

They are designed to develop and enhance leadership qualities for individuals who are committed to building a stronger local economy by educating them on the issues that face their region and prepare them to implement change. -
Candidate Academies for Prospective Elected Officials
Includes a candidate academy to help prospective candidates learn about serving in office, and webinars and workshops designed to strengthen the skills and leadership capacity of elected and appointed officials. -
Local Government Education Webinars
Each year, elected and appointed government officials and administrators from across the state improve their knowledge and skills through professional development opportunities offered by University of Illinois Extension. -
eLearning Modules
Self-directed online learning modules designed for Extension staff and nonprofit managers who want to improve their skills in project management. -
Age Matters
Helps managers and directors develop effective communication and management strategies which reflect generational preferences and values. -
Real Colors
Introduces different communications styles and ways of processing information. For individuals and groups such as school staffs, businesses, government offices and community organizations. -
Connecting Generations
Pairs middle school and high school students with adults who wish to learn computer and internet basics, and enables students to serve their communities. -
Poverty Simulation
Addresses the challenges of living with limited resources and an abundance of stress. The role play is a powerful way to convey real world obstacles to securing food and shelter.
