James Theuri provides leadership in local food systems and small farm programs in Grundy, Kankakee and Will Counties. His specialty is in integrated pest management, but also facilitates other programs in farm management; horticulture; livestock and horse maintenance; forage production; soil science; conventional and organic specialty crop production; and beekeeping. In addition, he enjoys educating clients and assisting with their varied and specific needs.

James joined University of Illinois Extension in Kankakee County in 2005 as a Unit Ag/Natural Resources educator. James initiated new programs such as Master Naturalists; Living on the Land; Farm Estate Planning and Land Leases; Good Agricultural Practices; and Kankakee River Valley Beekeepers Association.

Most of James' working life has been as a career research scientist in plant pathology and molecular genetics. He has been involved in training Extension agents to identify diseases of field crops and vegetables in Missouri and in Kenya.

James graduated from the University of Missouri in Columbia with a Doctorate degree in Plant Pathology and Molecular Biology. Prior to that he attended University of Reading in England where he obtained a Masters degree in Crop Protection. His Bachelors degree was acquired at University of Nairobi, Kenya, in Zoology and Botany.
