Sandra Mason is the State Master Gardener Coordinator with University of Illinois Extension with over 3000 active Master Gardener volunteers throughout Illinois. Master Gardeners are trained volunteers dedicated to "Helping Others Learn to Grow" through sharing gardening information in local workshops, horticulture hotlines, and community gardens. Mason's background includes 29 years as a county-based horticulture educator with UI Extension where she trained and coordinated Master Gardener and Master Naturalist volunteers and provided public education on many aspects of gardening and sustainable landscaping. Mason is also the host of WILL television program Mid-American Gardener that airs Thursdays at 7:00 pm.
Mason has a B.S. (with honors) in horticulture and an M.S. degree in agricultural education from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She held a wide variety horticultural positions before joining Extension.
Mason's professional affiliations are the American Horticultural Society, Garden Writers Association and the American Society of Horticultural Science.
