Kimberly Nute-Jones brings a wealth of experience to Extension as a Consumer and Family Economics Extension Educator. She has more than 18 years of experience as a financial planner, investment advisor, and tax practitioner. Kimberly has worked with a variety of audiences providing seminars and workshops on topics that include money and debt management; savings and investment planning; retirement planning and employee benefits; insurance planning; tax planning; estate planning; and real estate investing.

In her spare time, Kimberly has volunteered for Parent Teacher Organizations (PTO) with the Chicago Public Schools and the Flossmoor School District 161. She has also served as a science fair judge, a community grant-writing committee member, and as a committee member on a district-wide school discipline advisory board. Kimberly offers a variety of programming for individuals, families, and organizations, with a particular emphasis on at-risk communities.

Kimberly is a member of the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (AAFCS), the Illinois Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (IAFCS), the National Association of Tax Professionals (NATP), the South Suburban Alliance for Family Education and Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society. She has served on the board of directors for the Ora Higgins Youth Foundation Scholarship, and is currently the vice president of the board of Madison Meadows Homeowners Association of Flossmoor.

Kimberly earned her bachelor's degree in Financial Counseling and Planning from Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana, and her master's degree in Secondary Education with distinction from Saint Xavier University in Chicago.

Kids and Money

These workshops provide insight on how to help your children become better consumers as they handle money. Some of the workshop titles include:

Financially Savvy Seniors

This workshop is designed to inform senior citizens of the options available to them through the Illinois Department on Aging, Department of Health and Human Services, and the State of Illinois. Issues to be covered in this workshop include: Knowing the array of benefits and services available to seniors, avoiding scams, reporting elder abuse, making appropriate housing choices, obtaining a power of attorney, and planning your estate. This workshop is appropriate for senior citizens and those interested in protecting the rights of seniors.

Tax Tips for the Working Adult (1040 Basics)

This workshop is designed to inform working adults of the various options they have when filing their federal and state tax returns. The topics covered in this workshop include: Choosing a filing status and number of exemptions, claiming dependents, understanding the different types of deductions and credits (i.e. Education Credit, Earned Income Credit, Schedule A deductions, etc.), keeping records and important tax documents, responding to an IRS notice, and getting help if you owe the IRS.

Avoiding Foreclosure

This workshop is designed to inform homeowners of the options available to them to save their home from foreclosure. The topics covered in this workshop include: What is foreclosure? What are the steps to foreclosure? What can be done to prevent foreclosure? How do I avoid foreclosure scams? and, Will I be able to purchase a home after foreclosure?
