Giesela Grumbach is a family life educator with University of Illinois Extension. In this role, Giesela is responsible for providing educational opportunities related to families with school age children. She enjoys presenting on effective disciplinary techniques, single parenting, parenting and stress, family communications and more.
Grumbach received her master's degree in social work from Loyola University of Chicago and a two-year post graduate certificate in marriage and family therapy from the Family Institute at Northwestern University. She has many years experience in utilizing a strengths-based model for working with children and families from all walks of life. The best part of the job for Giesela is working with people, meeting their needs for programming, and respecting their uniqueness.
Grumbach has been active in her professional association by serving first as Chicago Area District Chair (2000-2002) and then as president for the NASW, IL Chapter (2005-2007). In this capacity she revitalized the committee on diversity ad cultural competence. She urged the committee to revise its mission and expand its definitiion of diversity to be the most inclusive ever, which has helped to bridge gaps between rural and metropolitan member involvement.
Program Offerings
Giesela Grumbach is a family life educator with an emphasis on families with children. Ms. Grumbach utilizes a strengths-based approach to family development and enjoys working with underserved populations. Ms. Grumbach works with social service agencies, universities, professional organizations, schools, and townships to provide programming in the areas of parent education, relationship building, work/life balance, child development and, by special requests, presents on her professional exchange experience in South Africa.
