Pete Fandel earned a Bachelor's Degree in both Agriculture Business and in Agronomy from Illinois State University, and a Master's Degree in Agronomy from the University of Illinois.

Fandel is a member of the Illinois Extension Agriculture Association, National Association of County Agricultural Agents, American Society of Agronomy and Epsilon Sigma Phi (ESP). He is active in the community as a Hunter Safety Instructor with the Department of Natural Resources.

He has received numerous awards including the NACAA Achievement Award, Illinois Farm Bureau Ag Excellence Award, College of ACES Outstanding Program-Team, ESP Visionary Leader Award, Direct Mail Piece NACAA, IEAA Action Award, USDA Merit Award, State Early Career Award ESP, C-FAR Achievement Awardand 40 Leaders Under 40.

Program Offerings

Fandel offers numerous programs in areas of Agronomy, Value Added Agriculture, Ethanol Production, and Low-Cost Global Positioning Systems for Agruculture.

Agronomy - Fandel offers a variety of programs in many areas of Agronomy including: pest management, soil fertility/nutrient management and crop management. He is currently working in other areas such as Global Positioning Systems and Biotechnology.

Low-Cost GPS - Fandel and other colleges have been conducting applied research on ways to utilize low-cost (WAAS) corrected GPS receivers for many agriculture applications including field scouting, grid soil sampling, yield monitors, and manure application just to name a few. This research has led to many practical on-farm applications that are being used in several states including Illinois.

Value Added Agriculture - Fandel has been very active in the Value project which focused on adding value to agricultural products. He has served on the board of directors of several producer groups that are looking for ways to add value to their products. During that process he wasinvolved in the organization of two ethanol plants. His experience gives him a unique ability to talk about Ethanol issues from a wide variety of viewpoints.
