Astronomy Sights—What’s Up?

February 19, 2018 (6:30 PM - 8:00 PM )

The East Central Illinois Master Naturalists are partnering up with Parkland College to present “Astronomy Sights—What’s Up?” on February 19, 2018, from 6:30-8 p.m. During this presentation, Dave Leake, direct of the William M. Staerkel Planetarium, will present a range of astronomical topics of interest to those who love nature.

As director of the planetarium, Leake teaches astronomy and physics classes in addition to performing shows for the children who come in on field trips. He is a past president of the Champaign-Urbana Astronomical Society and of the Great Lakes Planetarium Association, as well as serving as a NASA Solar System Ambassador.

This program will take place at the William M. Staerkel Planetarium at Parkland (2400 West Bradley, Champaign). Topics will include current events in the fields of astronomy and physics, as well as what is new at the Planetarium. Leake will also share materials from the last solar eclipse as well as information on what to expect for the next one.

The cost for this event is $5. Pre-registration is required. 1.5 Master Naturalist continuing education hours are available for those who attend the class.
