Meeting Minutes

Third Quarter Meeting

Attendance:

Executive Council Members Present: Prentiss Jackson, Gwendolyn Mastin, Lisa Messinger, June Price, Britt Savage, Geraldine Simmons, Eugene Williams

Call to Order: Meeting was called to order at ll:50 a.m. by President Gwen Mastin.

Minutes of previous meeting

There were no minutes for the July meeting. This meeting was canceled because of limited members able to attend. Therefore, the minutes approved were from April 13, 2007 meeting. It was moved by Eugene and seconded by Prentiss.

Old Business

Members present were encouraged to bring 1-2 new potential members to the next meeting.

Willene was asked to provide each council member with a packet of information they will share with potential members

New Business

Governor's Budget

Willene provided the council with an update on how the governor's budget affected the 4-H youth development educators in our region and particularly our county. (See handout#1)

Freedom of Information Act

Willene had to provide the HR department on campus with a copy/list of employees whose responsibility is to work with "youth". (See handout #2)

CHSAS

Willene shared information regarding one of the advisory committee members from the Agriculture High School. The president of that committee, Marc Schulman, has approached not only Dr. Oliver, but also the Dean of the College, Chancellor and others for additional funding to be earmarked for the school. (see attached)

· The council expressed their concerns regarding request of organizations, institutions and other agencies who have wanted the local county to take state funds and earmark for their personal gains.

· The council has recommended we develop partnerships with grass root organizations, without earmarking funds for organizations efforts. They/council

recommends funds be used as stipulated in the directions from the state.

  • The council chose to draft a letter that will be viewed and kept on file until said time they identify who should receive the letter. This letter's intent is to inform all concerned of their support for the county's evolving programs. Letter due to Willene by November l5.
  • Council members requested future dates they can visit CHSAS for a tour& visit programs in the county.
  • Council requested that they be kept informed of this situation.

Administrative

Willene informed the council regarding the meeting she attended on campus in Dr. Oliver stead. This meeting was arranged so that Regional Directors could listen and dialogue with youth educators around the sate. She informed the council about the negative comments cook county youth educators have been exposed to from other educators around the state since the county received $5 million. Council suggested the staff continue to develop programs that are issue based for this county and not force "canned programs" designed to address non local needs.

Extension State Advisory Committee

  • Art King is the representative for this region along with Tanesha Pittman. We will receive minutes from Mr. King.
