Previous Minutes:

· Approval of October 15, 2013 meeting minutes was moved to be accepted as is by Bob Mueller and seconded by Alice Webster. Motion approved.

Fiscal Report:

· Fiscal reports were reviewed. Tony Franklin reported the current cash balance for Unit 7 of $698,603.51 reflecting 64% of total budget. The substantial amount grant money coming into the unit is helping us be more sustainable and allowing us to operate under budget. Tony also reported on each of the unit offices' In/Out balances year-to-date. The Income and Expense analysis sheet was reviewed.

Council Reports:

• Al talked about the progress of his Honey Bee SPIN Club.

• Barb said she is seeing good things about 4-H and FFA in the Mercer County newspaper. She also discussed the Mercer County Board is interested in Agri-tourism.

• Alice stated more is being done to improve leadership of 4-H.

Staff Reports: (see Staff Reports for complete highlights)

Diane Baker: Diane elaborated on the 4-H Science Siesta scheduled for February 7-8; Teens as Teachers and Teen Leadership Academy. Distributed flyers for Science Siesta.

Kristin Bogdonas: Kristin emphasized the Meals for Healthy Hearts and Worksite Wellness programs.

Jenny Garner: Passed out the upcoming social media webinar series in Henry-Stark counties, the North Central Region indicators that featured our unit, the redesigned Mercer County tourism brochure, and the Community Matters application.

Cheryl Geitner: Cheryl highlighted the Horse Bowl Hippology, which has been hosted in our unit four years in a row.

Martha Smith: In Martha's absence, Tony reported on her behalf. He talked about the Emerald Ash Borer site being on our unit website. There are links to forms and information plus the three voice-over PowerPoints uploaded as YouTube videos. Martha's intention is to offer quick, easy to reference information as we get into the 2014 growing season and homeowners have questions about EAB, Ash trees, and homeowner control options. Distributed the Bald Eagle Days flyer and EAB bookmark.

Other Reports and Announcements:

The Extension 100 Year Gala is scheduled for April 5 at Lavender Crest in Colona, IL. There will be a silent auction and dinner. Looking for old pictures representing Extension and 4-H programs over the years in each county. We do not have much historical information and pictures from Rock Island and Henry counties.

Tony mentioned there are several positions in the process of being filled, i.e., Extension Program Coordinator 4-H for Henry/Stark, Office Support Associate (fiscal), and two SNAP-Ed Community Workers .

Next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at 6 p.m. at the Mercer County Extension office, 2106 SE 3rd Street, Aledo, IL 61231.
