Extension Council Meeting Minutes

The Fulton-Mason-Peoria-Tazewell Extension Council met April 11, 2017 at the Tazewell County Extension Office. Council members present were John Asplund, Rosemary Palmer, Kelvin Sampson, Steve Waterworth, Sunita Shastry, Erika Eigenbrod, Amanda Woodruff – P, Cindy Chaffin – P, Sally Bair – P, and Pamela Rumba – P. Also present were Earl Allen, County Director and Emily Schoenfelder, Unit 4-H educator. Absent council members were Shundell Broomfield, Clara Gonzalez, Cody Zeeck, Meghan Curless and Nicole Forsberg.

Chairman John Asplund called the meeting to order at 6:37 PM

Council approved the February 27, 2017 meeting minutes as read.

Programming Updates:

Earl Introduced Emily Schoenfelder as the Unit 11 4-H youth educator and gave us a little background about her. Emily started March 1, 2017. She is from California where she worked in a similar position. She has currently been getting a feel for our 4-H program and doing a needs assessment.

ACES Dean Kim Kidwell and Extension director George Czapar will visit the Unit April 18, 2017.

ITINERARY for Visit by Dr. Kidwell and Dr. Czapar

· 11:45am - Arrive at Tazewell Extension Office – 1505 Valle Vista, Pekin, IL

· 11:45am-12:30pm – Working Lunch to include introductions and presentations by County Director Earl Allen, SNAP-Ed educator Kaitlyn Streitmatter and EFNEP educator Margaret Cover.

· 12:30-1:00pm - Travel to Wildlife Prairie Park with horticulture educator Rhonda Ferree and environmental stewardship Educator Jason Haupt.

· 1:00-1:45pm – View MG/MN butterfly habitat and other projects; dialogue with horticulture educator Rhonda Ferree, environmental stewardship educator Jason Haupt, and other volunteers, partners etc.

· 1:45-2:10pm – Travel to Common Place Family Learning Center with 4-H educators Judy Schmidt and Emily Schoenfelder.

· 2:10-2:40pm – View 4-H Spark Tank hoop house project; meet partners/volunteers.

· 2:40-3:00pm – Travel to Greater Peoria Economic Development Center Office with community economic development educator Kathie Brown and Anne Silvis

· 3:00-3:45pm – Presentations and dialogue with community economic development educator Kathie Brown and community partners and collaborators.

Fiscal and Administrative Updates:

FY17 should be under budget assuming the state match money will come in. If matching money does not become available, we will have to dip into reserves. There have been cuts made in travel expenses and two fulltime employees just retired.

FY18: budget is similar to FY17. Earl may give a little more leeway to travel and try to save in other areas. If budget stays on course, we will have a $40,000 reserve after FY18. Earl is confident we can go two more years without any layoffs.
