What's in Season?

When purchasing vegetables and fruit from local Farmers Markets, you should be aware of the growing season here in Northern Illinois. If a vendor is offering up lovely tomatoes in early June, chances are they are not local.

Use the list below to help you choose what to buy and from whom to buy. This list provides you a typcial framework for seasonality in the area. If you have further questions, ask the farmer!

Early Season – May to June

Asparagus Herbs Lettuce Rhubarb

Onions Peas Strawberries Spinach

Radishes Greens Cherries

Midseason – July to August

Beans Herbs Leeks Lettuce

Onions Peas Radishes Spinach

Corn Blueberries Raspberries Cabbage

Melons Zucchini Carrots Potatoes

Broccoli Cauliflower Tomatoes Swiss Chard

Cucumbers Beets Kohlrabi Peppers

Late Season – September to October
