  • Naturalist skills (i.e., how to conduct animal surveys, use field guides and keys, etc.)
  • Expertise in the art of nature interpretation, outreach and education
  • Volunteer opportunities with numerous environmental agencies and organizations tailored to fit your personal interests, abilities and time restraints

Master Naturalists are required to complete a minimum of 40 hours of field and classroom learning. Participants must also complete 30 hours volunteer service within the first year to become a Certified Master Naturalist.

To maintain certification, Master Naturalists must complete 30 hours volunteer service and take one 10-hour continuing education class yearly.
