Kim Sheahan Sanford ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF EDUCATION SPURLOCK MUSEUM (Retired)

Kim was the Assistant Director of Education and Resident Storyteller at the Spurlock Museum from 1991 to 2023. She fell in love with the original version of the Spurlock, called the World Heritage Museum, on a 6th grade field trip and knew from that day it was where she wanted to work. Kim has a master’s degree in History from the University of Illinois and a master’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies (Museology, Education, and Special Education) from the University of Idaho. She was the Museum’s representative to the Champaign County Museums Network and previously served on the Board of the Illinois Association of Museums.

Zachary Cain

Zach has been teaching 6th grade social studies at Edison Middle School in Champaign, Illinois, since 2001. He received his bachelor’s degree in History from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and his teacher’s certification from Illinois State University. Zach currently serves as the Social Studies Department Chair at Edison, as well as the co-facilitator of Social Studies professional development for Champaign Unit #4 Middle School teachers. He has been extremely active in the American History Teachers Collaborative through the Urbana School District and the University of Illinois’ “World History from Below” workshops.
