Throughout the 21 days I was able to candle some of the eggs. I noticed that some embryos were smaller than others. As I am getting ready to take the turner out I candled the eggs one more time. I had a few that were no longer viable, a few that were normal sized and looked ready to hatch, and several where the embryos looked about 1/2 the size of the eggs that looked 'normal' but there was movement in the eggs. Will the smaller embryos hatch at 21 days like the normal eggs? How long do I give them if they do not come out after 21 days? What would cause such a difference in size of the embryos? I did have a couple of days where the temp was a little low (trouble with my thermometer). I also had one that got stuck to the turner and I had to break it to get it off (no chick inside-thankfully!)

Hi Sheri,

Thanks for the question. This is a question for Dr. Koelkebeck, U of I Poultry expert. Thus, I reposted your question in "Incubator Principles & Procedures." Hopefully, hel'll get back to you soon.
