A Fair Education

Posted by Aimee Chandler -

Many county fairs are underway.  There are many opportunities to learn about agriculture at the county fair.  I invite you to attend the Iroquois County Fair in Crescent City July 20-25.  Walk through the animal barns and watch the livestock shows.  Maybe even ask a 4-H member what they like about having livestock.  At the Iroquois County Fair you can find horses, sheep, goats, swine, beef, dairy, rabbits and poultry all being shown.  Walk through the other exhibit areas.  See the other agriculture products that are being shown like vegetables, corn, soybeans and small grains.  Don't forget to check out the 4-H exhibit area to see the wide variety of projects kids in 4-H can take these days.  4-H is a lot more than corn and cooking!!  You can also walk through the commercial buildings to visit with agribusinesses from around the county.  Finally, don't forget to eat some of that yummy fair food!  Remember it all came from agriculture.  The sugar in the cotton candy came from sugar cane or a sugar beet. That hamburger came from a beef animal and the bun from wheat.  Your candy apple was grown in an orchard on an apple tree.  Come learn about the agriculture all around you at the county fair.

See you at the fair!!
