Katherine Mei is the Consumer Economics Program Coordinator for University of Illinois Extension, serving Champaign, Ford, Iroquois and Vermilion Counties. Mei provides management assistance in Consumer Economics programs.
Mei is currently pursuing her MBA at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She received a Bachelor's degree in Agricultural and Consumer Economics with Financial Planning concentration from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign as well. Mei joined Extension as a Consume Economics Program Coordinator in 2013.
As a Program Coordinator, Mei coordinates programs with the Extension Consumer Economics Educators on financial initiatives. She assists in distribution of educational resources through promotion on social networks, logistical requirements for meeting and programs, and recruitment, training, and support of volunteers. Mei also assists with the development of marketing plans and goals to recruit targeted Family and Consumer Economics participants for educational activities in conjunction with Educators and Unit Support Staff.
Prior to her current position with Extension, she was the Peer Educator in the University of Illinois Extension-Financial Wellness Program for College Students. As a Peer Educator, she was responsible to provide money management advice for college students regards to budgeting, credit issues, and other financial topics such as utilizing job benefits. Also, she provided presentations to campus clubs and organizations, as well as campus faculties, at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She’s also a member of the Financial Planning Association.
