Vermilion County Master Gardeners
Vermilion County Master Gardener Tuesday Night Classes
Vermilion County Master Gardeners host a program on the third Tuesday of each month.
The location for most classes is the Danville Public Library 319 N. Vermilion St., Danville at 6:00 p.m.
The public is invited to attend. Call the Vermilion Extension office at 217-442-8615 to pre-register or for more information. You may register online or at the door. Email Jenney Hanrahan email@example.com to sign up in advance.
July 17 Succulents with Schuren Nursery- Succulents are colorful, versatile plants that can be grown indoors and out- if you know how. Schuren Nursery is known for their wide selection of these fascinating plants. This will be a great opportunity to ask questions like: Which ones do you need to bring in when our seasons change? What about soil, light, moisture? What type of container is best? Should I use fertilizer? Which ones pair well together? Jessica Douglas from Schuren Nursery will have some samples to show and answer your questions.
August 21 Backyard Chickens-Are you considering having chickens? Do you have chickens but would like more information? Our Extension office regularly receives inquiries about raising chickens in the backyard. Come hear a panel of Master Gardeners and members of the community discuss their experiences with backyard chickens. Whatever your reasons for raising chickens this will be educational and interesting.
September 18 Garden to Table with MG Walter Deck and Charlie Collom-Master Gardeners will bring their harvested produce and provide details on vegetables they have grown. They will discuss specific issues they had in 2018 with diseases, pests and insects. They will also share information on soil and water conditions in case you wish to try growing specific varieties in the future. There will be tasting at the end of this program.

MONDAY November 13 Prairie Restoration with Ryan Pankau
December Make a Holiday Wreath with Mary Stonecipher & Pat Sollars Not only do they look beautiful, but fresh wreaths perfume the air around us and remind us of past holidays. Winter containers overflowing with evergreens provide color during drab winter months. Learn from an expert! Mary Stonecipher is known for her horticulture design. You will make a wreath we furnish the metal ring and a variety of fresh greenery. Bring your garden gloves and decorations to add your personal style. You must pre-pay $15 online or by check/cash at the Vermilion County Extension Office 3164 N. Vermilion, Danville. Make checks payable to: University of Illinois. Call 217-442-8615 for more information. We are unable to take walk-ins. Space is limited and the class sells out every year. Your place is not reserved until payment is received. ‘Make and Take’ Fee required to cover cost of all materials including greens. Class will be held at International Greenhouse Supply 70 Eastgate Danville Industrial Park off Main St.
