Maker Girl 3-D Printing Workshop Mobile Tour stops in Carlinville

On Thursday, June 2, Maker Girl Mobile, the non-profit organization founded by students at the University of Illinois in Champaign, traveled to the U of I Extension office in Carlinville to implement two 3-D printing workshops. Thirty-eight girls from Macoupin County attended this program and were able to experiment with computer design programs and 3-D printers. The girls worked with the Tinkercad design program and Cura was the printing software used during this event. Youth engaged in the three step learning process of brainstorming, designing, and printing.

Maker Girl Mobile is designed to excite and inspire young girls in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) through 3-D printing sessions. Maker Girl will be traveling all summer to rural and underserved communities across the country. Their goal is to spark an interest in this under represented area at an early age by providing an environment for girls to learn, create, experiment, and engage in STEM activities.
