4-H Outdoor Cooking Workshop held at Beaver Dam State Park
October 19, 2016
On Saturday, October 15, several youth from Macoupin County took part in the 4-H Outdoor Cooking Workshop at Beaver Dam State Park near Carlinville. Macoupin County 4-H Leader Karen King was on hand to teach youth some outdoor cooking basics and to guide youth in preparing a few outdoor meals. King discussed food safety and good hygiene in relation to outdoor food preparation. Members stayed busy my making two foil recipes. They made pizza pita pockets and campfire cones over the coals of the fire. While waiting for the meals to cook, youth worked together in groups to make apple cider slushies. Participants were then taught a few fire safety basics in regards to outdoor cooking. Members took home an outdoor cooking handbook along with a few recipes to try at a later date. Overall, it was a successful outing and youth learned by doing.
