Extension Hosts Wreath Making and Gifts from the Kitchen Workshop for Adults in Hillsboro

University of Illinois Extension hosted a festive evening of holiday preparation with Andrew Holsinger, Horticulture Educator, and Lisa Peterson, Nutrition and Wellness Educator. Over twenty attended the “Deck the Halls and Stuff the Stockings” workshop held December 8, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Montgomery County Extension office in Hillsboro, IL.

Holsinger and Peterson helped participants create their own wreath for the holidays, and make both a cocoa mix and soup mix in a jar to give as homemade holiday gifts. The program took participants step-by-step through the process of making homemade gifts including taste testing, recipes, food safety tips, dealing with the stress of the holidays, and eating sensibly through the holidays. Along with creating homemade gifts, participants created a wreath using natural greenery and hydrangea blooms.

For more information about upcoming nutrition and horticulture workshops call the Montgomery County Extension office at 217-532-3941, or visit the Extension website at
