URBANA, Ill. – University of Illinois Extension is co-sponsoring a four-state dairy nutrition and management conference in Dubuque, Iowa, on June 14 and 15. The two-day program will feature talks by experts from U of I’s Department of Animal Sciences and from universities and industries in the Midwest and across the country.

Phil Cardoso and Mike Hutjens, both from the Department of Animal Sciences at U of I, will be discussing the use of clay as a feed additive for dairy cows and feed choices to minimize lameness, respectively. Additional topics will include how short-chain fatty acid content affects milk fat and protein yield; the effect of leaky gut on transition cow health and using chromium propionate as a mitigation strategy; mycotoxin mitigation; TMR sampling; and more.

“This is one of the top dairy conferences in the U.S., and it is very well attended,” Cardoso says. “Participants enjoy networking with dairy industry peers and hearing about topics that are relevant and tailored to the audience.”

The conference will be held at the Grand River Center at 500 Bell Street in Dubuque, Iowa. The cost of the conference is $175, and participants can register at The event is co-sponsored by University of Illinois Extension, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, University of Minnesota Extension, and University of Wisconsin-Extension.
