Dr. Ashley J. Belle is an Environmental and Energy Stewardship Extension Educator for the University of Illinois Extension. She earned a Ph.D. in Environmental Science and Technology from the University of Maryland College Park. Dr. Belle's dissertation, "Coupling Anaerobic Digestion Technology and Forage Radish Cover Cropping to Optimize Methane Production of Dairy Manure-based Digestion," resulted in the publication of peer reviewed journal articles in Bioresource Technology and Biomass & Bioenergy. She received a Master's degree in Environmental Sciences, specializing in Environmental Toxicology from Louisiana State University and a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry from Dillard University.
Dr. Belle has a passion for teaching about generating renewable energy from waste materials and utilizing biological treatment methods to improve water quality. Through recycling and energy conservation education, she also encourages people to utilize natural resources wisely and incorporate environmentally sustainable practices into their daily lifestyles.
Prior to joining U of I Extension, Dr. Belle was an Assistant Professor of Environmental Sciences and a Frederick Douglass Teaching Scholar at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania. Her professional affiliations include Sigma Xi, American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers, and American Ecological Engineering Society.
