University of Illinois Extension 2014 Summer Interns: Introductions

Posted by Ron Wolford -

My name is Ilana Braverman and I will be a junior at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in the fall. I am majoring in Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences, with a concentration in Human Dimensions. This summer Shelby and I have developed a survey in hopes of improving the Master Gardener program here in Cook County. Surveys have been done in the past for other states, but every community is different and we're curious to know what the Illinois Master Gardener program is all about! I'm specifically interested in how the Cook County Master Gardener program increases the availability of locally grown food. I've already heard some great stories, and am looking forward to learning more!

My name is Shelby Cooper and I'm a junior at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. I'm from Downs, Illinois just southeast of Bloomington, and I was inspired to study Agricultural Education by my high school teachers. Working in my school's greenhouse was always one of my favorite activities, and I'm excited to see how urban agriculture has made a difference in youth education and communities in Chicago.
