100th Anniversary Cook County Master Gardener Picnic

Posted by Ron Wolford -

It's not often an organization is able to celebrate 100 years of success, so it was a pleasure and an honor to be able to attend University of Illinois Extension's 100 Year Anniversary Picnic alongside volunteers and Master Gardeners from Cook County. The picnic was housed at a pavilion in Western Springs, Illinois and approximately 75 Master Gardeners and Extension employees were able to attend. As soon as we arrived, we were met with welcoming faces and were able to get something to eat and drink. Observing the crowd, volunteers of all ages were conversing and sharing stories from all over this part of the state. It was obvious to see that these volunteers were genuine and cared about the program as much as if it were their own to maintain. We were serenaded by one volunteer, and impressed by a poetic performance from another. Overall, the experience was one for the books. It was a pleasure to be able to meet so many influential and giving volunteers, and here's to hoping we're invited back next year!
