Museum of Science and Industry: Smart Home Garden

Posted by Ron Wolford -

If the weather is on our side, our next visit to the Museum of Science and Industry Smart Home Garden will be warm and sunny. We arrived at the museum this morning to find several Master Gardeners working diligently on the plot of land on the east side of the building. The Smart Home Garden surrounds the museum's Smart Home, which is currently closed but will be open in an upcoming summer. Today we were able to explore the grounds, plant tomatoes, observe the beehives on the property, and talk to some enthusiastic Master Gardeners while working in a little bit of rain. We moved some heavy bales of hay while the gardeners made gracious comments about our "young knees" and watered the newly established Smart Pots, even though it was continuing to rain. We hope to learn more about the sustainable and progressive aspects of gardening from our educators. All in all, we can't wait to get back to the Smart Home Garden to see progress week after week, and we thank the coordinating Master Gardeners for all their hard work!
