How small can a space be and still be transformed into a garden? Carolyn Ulrich, editor of Chicagoland Gardening magazine, will present a slide-based lecture that features some of Chicago's finest small gardens.

Her talk will convince you that any size city lot or any container can become a great garden and be of great pleasure to the owner and to those who may visit it.

Carolyn has visited and photographed all of the gardens in her presentation and will bring to us what she has learned from her discussions with the gardens' designers.

The gardens were designed primarily by their owners with only a couple designed by professionals. She has included a very exciting garden designed by Dennis Paul, recipient of Mayor Daley's Gardener of the Year 2003 and will offer slides of some interesting roof-top container gardens.

Carolyn is a prolific writer; her articles have been published in the Chicago Tribune, Horticulture magazine, House Beautiful, and Garden Design. She has received the Quill and Trowel Award for magazine writing for three of her articles, most recently in 2000 for a story on ornamental grasses in the September-October 1999 issue Chicagoland Gardening magazine. The award is presented by the Garden Writers Association of America.
