Wild Flower Preservation Society Field Trip

Posted by Ron Wolford -

In a departure from its regular meeting time and place, the Wild Flower Preservation Society is taking a field trip to the rooftop garden of the Schwab Rehabilitation Hospital, 1401 S. California (just south of Roosevelt Road (1200) at 2800 West.

Mike Wehner, senior recreation therapist who spoke to the Master Gardener trainees on the need for volunteers will be our guide. Please be there at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 3 at the entrance to the hospital and he'll take us up. The hospital has a cafe for light lunches and we can gather there after our tour for something to eat.

There is street parking and parking across the street in Douglas Park which is monitored by hospital security. Douglas Park incidentally was the first design by Jens Jensen before he went on to do Lincoln Park.

We can take time to look around after lunch if people choose. If you plan to come, please email Master Gardener Jeanne Zasadil at There is also public transportation directly to the hospital -- 836-7000 (CTA-RTA).
