Gemini began her duties providing horticulture education for the public focusing in Northern Cook County in 2017. Her goals are to work with both youth and adult community members to facilitate learning about plants, environmental stewardship, and gardening.
She provides leadership and training for the North Cook Suburban Master Gardeners who then engage the public by volunteering their time doing horticultural education at community and school gardens, Forest Preserve of Cook County sites, and special events in the North Cook area. Active Master Gardeners provide high quality, research based education on topics ranging from composting to native plants.
Gemini holds a Masters’ Degree in Crop and Soil Science and a Bachelors’ Degree in Plant and Environmental Biology with a specialization in Science, Technology, and Environmental Public Policy from Michigan State University.
Prior to joining Extension, Gemini worked and volunteered in educational roles with both adults and youth. She also has experience with community garden projects, on organic farms, on conventional farming research projects, with a small landscaping company, in greenhouses, on urban farms, doing small-scale composting, and in the laboratory.
