Aces Global Academy Diary:
Sunday was a recovery day, it was 29 hours from take-off in Champaign until reaching hotel in Manila amazing and exhausting. Checked in at 1:30 am and woke up in time to check out at noon. Our hosts had arranged a walking tour of the old walled city in Manila called Intramuros (between the walls). We received a basic history lesson on the Philippines and saw some amazing sights.

View of Manila's Chinatown across the river from Intramuros.

Park in Intramuros across form Fort Santiago

Entrance to Fort Santiago. A site that has been used by Spanish, American and Japanese military commanders as a headquarters. We learned of the imprisonment and execution of Filipino patriot Jose Rizal here. More recently during WWII American and Filipino soldiers were imprisoned, tortured and killed here in the final days of WWII.

General Douglas MacArthur is still there on a park bench pondering the situation.

There area a cathedral and a monastery in Intramuros both were active with an apparently continuous stream of weddings that afternoon.

The Augustinian monastery.

After the tour a driver from IRRI picked us up and we headed toward Los Banos an hour and a half southeast of Manila.
