Learn the Secrets of Growing Great Tomatoes

Growing tomatoes at home is tricky. Tomato plants are temperamental and gardeners have to know when the perfect time to plant is, what support and nutrients tomatoes need to flourish and how to fight off the inevitable pests and diseases. Luckily, Master Gardener Richard Zerfowski knows all the tricks.

Head to Secrets of Growing Great Tomatoes from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 8 to get your tomato plants off to the right start this year. This free class will take place at the Allerton Public Library District located at 4000 Green Apple Lane in Monticello. This class will cover everything from seed to harvest including how to plant and care for tomato plants, ways to improve garden soil, tomato diseases, caging tomatoes, weather factors and choosing cultivars. In 2015, Richard Zerfowski and 18 other Macon County Master Gardeners won the Master Gardener International Award for Excellence for their Secrets of Growing Great Tomatoes project.
