News Release

4-H Continues Monthly Learning Series Featuring Kokedama in November

4-H in DeWitt, Macon and Piatt Counties have joined together to offer area youth a monthly learning series during the 2017-2018 program year. The series features topics such as food preservation, worm composting, kokedama, ceramics and much more. Each topic is easily related to 4-H project areas and most can be exhibited during local county fairs or 4-H shows.
The learning series continues on Tuesday, November 21 with a kokedama workshop led by Extension Horticulture Educator Candice Hart. Kokedama, which translates to a ball of soil wrapped in moss, is the process of removing plants from pots, inserting them in a ball of soil and wrapping with moss and string. Participants will learn about the history of kokedama, how to make them and have an opportunity to make one.

This class will meet 6-7pm on November 21, 2017, and is open to youth ages 8-18 as of September 1, 2017. Cost is $10 for 4-H members and $15 for prospective 4-H members.

The workshop will be at the Macon County Extension Office located at 3351 N. Pres. Howard Brown Blvd. in Decatur. Registration by November 13 is required by visiting or calling 217.877.6042.
4-H is the largest youth organization in the world. In DeWitt, Macon and Piatt Counties, 4-H reaches more than 5,100 youth with learning opportunities promoting STEAM—science, technology, engineering, art and math—Healthy Living and Leadership/Citizenship.
