Twelve Gardening Ideas That Will Get You Motivated for Spring - Gardening Insights

Gardeners of all levels will find tips, tricks and ideas with a choice of 12 different classes along with two keynote speakers at Gardening Insights on Saturday, February 24, 2018. Sponsored by University of Illinois Extension Master Gardeners of Macon County, the event runs from 9am until 4pm in the Shilling Center on the campus of Richland Community College, One College Park, Decatur, IL.

Choose your favorite topics and learn more about water gardening, edible flowers, urban vegetable gardening, kokedama, raising tomatoes, beneficial insects, freezing and drying, how to create a fairy jar and more. Doors will open at 8am for registration and vendor shopping. Classes begin at 9am.

Our featured keynote speaker, Amanda Thomsen will have attendees laughing at her no-nonsense approach to gardening. Self-described as big, loud and fun, Amanda has been landscaping since she was young and is the author of the Kiss My Aster blog, followed by thousands. Amanda works to spread her non fuddy-duddy approach to gardening through humor and her practical approach. Donning her signature cat’s eye glasses, Amanda will be speaking about her 50 favorite plants and why you need them in your landscape.

Our lunch and learn speaker is Connor Shaw, owner of Possibility Place Nursery in Monee, IL. Connor is one Illinois’ leading growers of native trees, shrubs, forbs and grasses. Connor will lead an interactive discussion about trees, flowers, fruit, fall color and mature size.

For a complete list and descriptions of classes or to register visit our website at go.illinois.edu/dmp or call 217.877.6042.
