Be an Environmental Stewart-Become a Master Naturalist

Are you a nature lover? Do you love the natural world? If so, put your love to work and become a Master Naturalist through University of Illinois Extension training this fall. The Master Naturalist training program educates adult volunteers to be better equipped to share natural resource information with others in their communities and to assist with environmental conservation and restoration activities. By protecting the natural resources where you live, you will ensure the world is fit for the future. University of Illinois Extension partners with local agencies to accomplish the Master Naturalist mission of providing science-based education opportunities that connect people with nature and help them become engaged environmental stewards.
The Master Naturalist training covers topics such as geology, weather and climate, wetlands, ethics, entomology, prairie, botany, rivers and stream and much more. As part of this hands-on training program, participants will go on field trips throughout Illinois. Sites previously visited include Great River Museum, Pere Marquette State Park, Emiquon Nature Conservancy and Rock Springs Nature Center.

Master Naturalist training will be offered during 12 evening sessions from 6-9pm and will start at the Macon County Extension Office located at 3351 N. President Howard Brown Blvd. in Decatur, IL. Some classes will be held at Macon County Conservation District sites or Decatur Park District facilities. Classes begin August 28 and will be every Tuesday evening through November 13. Cost for the class is $150 per person. Participants may be eligible for partial fee waivers, please contact Dena at 217.877.6042 for details.
