News Release

I on Diabetes in DeWitt County

According to a 2017 CDC report, more than 100 million Americans have diabetes or prediabetes. Both of these conditions can be improved with simple changes, however, individuals who are diagnosed with diabetes quickly realize that managing their disease isn’t as simple as eating less sugar, but requires changes in lifestyles, knowledge and skills to successfully manage the disease and live a long and healthy life.

To help you successfully manage your diabetes, support a loved one with diabetes or lower your risk of diabetes, University of Illinois Extension’s Nutrition and Wellness Educator and Registered Dietitian Caitlin Mellendorf, is hosting I on Diabetes this fall. During this two-part series, Mellendorf will discuss how to make healthful meals at home, use foods to help manage blood glucose levels and make healthier choices while dining out.

I on Diabetes will be held September 13 and 20 from 5:30-7pm at the DeWitt County Extension Office located at 8425 Katie Road in Clinton. A diabetes-friendly meal will be served at each class. Cost for the program is $10 per person for both sessions. Advance registration is required by visiting go.illinois.edu/dmp or by calling 217.935.5764 by September 10.
For additional information regarding I on Diabetes or Extension’s Nutrition & Wellness program, contact Caitlin Mellendorf, at chuth2@illinois.edu or call 217.877.6042.
