Explore Bare Beauty of Winter Trees with Valentine’s Day Naked Tree Walk

MONTICELLO – Nature’s beauty comes in all colors and trees are gorgeous year-round whether they have fresh spring leaves, fall hues of orange and red and even when they are bare in the winter. This Valentine’s Day, enjoy the fresh air on a leisurely six-block stroll through residential Monticello while learning how to identify and care for trees.

Winter is a perfect time to see the beauty of a tree’s natural structure and the shape of every tree tells a story. University of Illinois Extension Horticulture Educator Ryan Pankau will lead the guided tree walk and discuss tree identification tips, planting placement and good residential tree choices for home landscapes.

The Naked Tree Walk is free and will be 1 to 2 p.m. on Thursday, February 14. Participants will meet at the parking lot of the Monticello Community Building, 201 N. State St., Monticello. The six-block route will follow State, Grant, Charter and Livingston streets. Hot chocolate will be served. Please dress for the weather.

Register online by February 11 at or with the Piatt County Extension Office by calling (217) 762-2191 or visiting 210 S. Market St., Monticello.
