Ticks

A dog can get ticks by walking through fields or wooded areas where ticks are present. The ticks attach to the dog and start feeding on the dog’s blood. Ticks can act as hosts for other pests and diseases.  They can affect the blood, because they commonly carry diseases such as Lyme disease.

By regularly looking at the dog’s hair, you can detect if there are ticks and start to treat the condition.

Ticks are about the size of a match head and flat.  If you find ticks on your dog and they haven’t started feeding, simply take a tweezers and pull them off.

If the tick has started feeding, and you can't remove it easily with tweezers, it is best to call the veterinarian for advice. Tick medications from your vet can help prevent and treat tick problems.
