Glaciers act like a big conveyor belt. They grind up and mix rock and soil as it moves. It brings all the stuff it picks up, and dumps it off at the front end. Sometimes, when the front end of the glacier would stay in place for some time, a low curved hill would be formed from this material - this is known as a moraine .
