At the edges of the glaciers , and especially during warmer periods, there was lots of meltwater. The meltwater carried lots of soil and rocks which is called outwash. OUTWASH, made up of soil and rocks, was deposited wherever the river slowed down. This material filled up most of the ancient river valleys. Outwash covered over much of the Mahomet-Teays River Valley, and during the last glaciation, moved the Mississippi River to its present location.
