Incubation Troubleshooting

Eggs pipped part way, embryos either dead or still alive.

Probable Cause Suggested Corrective Measure
Eggs set large end down in incubator trays or, less likely, crowded in hatcher trays so that some eggs are large end down

Check egg setting and transfer procedures properly.

Improper turning of eggs.

Turn eggs hourly, or, at least, at regular intervals eight times a day

Low average humidity.

Maintain proper temperature throughout incubation and hatching cycle.

Inadequate ventilation, or chicks weakened from other causes

Provide proper ventilation of the incubator and hatcher rooms and proper openings of the incubator and hatcher ventilators. Do not recirculate foul air.

Excessive high temperature for a short period.

Guard against temperature surge.

Low average temperature.

Maintain proper temperature throughout incubation and hatching cycle.
