Incubation Troubleshooting

Large, soft-bodied mushy chicks dead on trays with bad odor.

Probable Cause Suggested Corrective Measure
Poor ventilation in incubator and/or hatcher.

Provide proper ventilation of the incubator and hatcher rooms and proper openings of the incubator and hatcher ventilators.

Humidity too high, especially during incubation.

Maintain proper humidity levels throughout incubating and hatching cycle.

Omphasitis (Navel infection).

Thoroughly clean hatcher and hatch trays between hatches. Be sure hatch trays are clean. (A severe bad odor in this connection is most always associated with Omphalitis).
