Incubation Troubleshooting

Weak chicks.

Probable Cause Suggested Corrective Measure
Excessive temperature in hatcher.

Do not permit temperature in hatcher to be too high. If chicks are to be held in hatcher, reduce temperature after hatch completed.

Inadequate ventilation in hatcher.

Provide adequate hatcher room ventilation. Maintain adequate ventilator openings in hatcher. Open ventilators wider as hatch progresses. Properly remove hatcher exhaust air. Do not recirculate.

Embryos infected with organisms, especially by external microbial contamination through shell.

Use breeder houses and equipment of proper design and in good operating condition. Employ good poultry house ventilation. Avoid wet spots. Set only clean, uncracked eggs. Check hatcher sanitation procedures. Make sure hatcher and hatch trays have been thoroughly cleaned, disinfected, after each hatch.
